Media 13 and King Hollis Spar with Olympian Luis Yanez. From the comfortable tree-lined streets of Dallas' Oak Cliff neighborhood to the glittering sidewalks of Beijing, Luis Yanez is about family, community and fun. After a stunning amateur career (300 wins, including 90 in a row), Yanez becomes a professional fighter on February 20th at the American Airlines Center. Promoter Barry Mendelson and long-time boxing trainer Dennis Rodarte, contacted Media 13 to bring the story of Luis Yanez to life.
"King's extraordinary vision andcreative energy was exactly what the project demanded." said Barry."And, he's a real boxing fan." Media 13's daring and inventive concept was to capture the poeticdissonance that is boxing-- and, fully represents the enigmatic 20-year oldboxing phenomenon. "Luis has thefastest hands of any fighter I?ve seen. And, he delivers a jab I can onlydescribe as a cruise missile. It locks on and the last thing you see is yourlife flashing before your eyes,? said Hollis.
Media 13's production team -- led bytalented producer Fonya Naomi Mondell-- filmed in Oak Cliff, South Dallas andDuncanville. "It?s important we take the viewer to the places Luisconnected with,? said Mondell. Fonya is directing the en Espanol version of the program.
Lindell Singleton, who directedsecond-unit sequences, understood King's vision. "King has such clarity and singleness ofpurpose. He crafted this piece around Luis? story by presenting it as iconic.This is a kid who trained in Police Athletic League gyms and is from the DFWcommunity. His stories -- and the story of the people of both cities-- areessentially one story. Through the lensof this relationship, we'll tell the story,? said Singleton.
Media 13 diverted from the standard -- and, quitehonestly, often pedantic electronic press kit (EPK) production model and buildthe program around the strengths of the team. "Our group? said Hollis, ?is comfortable taking on any spate of production challenges because we cut ourteeth, so to speak in the narrative world. Our creative objectives were to findthe storytelling space that illustrates Luis Yanez."
Reggie Sutton, of Suttonsphere DigitalMarketing & Consulting LLC, will develop the interactive web site for theFebruary 20th event. "The brainpower and depth of talent at Media 13 makesthis a fun project for our team. We're helping them by using the digitallandscape to expand the reach and potential of Luis Yanez?s professional debutand beyond," said Sutton.
